Club History

 

     Oldbury Swimming & Triathlon Club

 

Founded in 1934 Oldbury Swimming Club started before the local area had its own swimming baths, which were opened in 1937.

During the 1970’s Oldbury became very successful boasting a good teaching base with international swimmers, county swimmers, midlands champions and record holders amongst its members.    The Club won the Worcester County Inter Club Championships four years in a row and in 1974 were finalists in the Swimming League West Midlands Top Division.

During the late 1980’s Oldbury saw a decline and the 1990’s saw lots of ups and downs from League Promotions and relegations to swimmers achieving National and District qualifying times. The end of the 1990’s saw the Senior Squad left without a Coach for 15 months and this meant a loss of many Squad Members.

The early 2000’s saw the Club start to attract new members and this gave the Club stability and was the foundations that have started the more recent successes:

2010

  • More swimmers achieving County Qualifying Times.
  • One Swimmer achieved a District Qualifying Time.
  • Two swimmers being picked to join the Worcester County Squad.
  • Diddy Girls Medley Relay Squad still undefeated since starting to swim together in 2008.
  • Diddy Squad promoted as Division 3 Champions.
  • Triathlete representing West Midlands in the National Inter-Regional Championships.
  • Jodie Stimpson, former Oldbury swimmer, now Honorary Member, currently in training for 2012 Olympics.

 

2011

  • More than 20 swimmers achieving County Qualifying Times.
  • One swimmer becoming Worcester County Champion for 50m Butterfly.
  • Junior squad finishing runners up in the Ross League
  • One swimmer picked to join Worcester County Squad
  • One Swimmer achieved a District Qualifying Time.
  • Diddy Squad reaching finals
  • Diddy Girls Medley Relay Squad finishing their Diddy career undefeated since starting to swim together in 2008.
  • Triathlete winning castle series
