·         Some high level events will consist of a Run followed by a Swim followed by a second (shorter)  Run.

·         An Aquathlon has no bike discipline (unlike a Triathlon swim-bike-run).

·         The changeover between each leg is termed ‘transition’ and is often called the forth discipline.

·         Transition allows athletes to prepare themselves for the next leg and can be a very important part of the overall event.

·         The swim in an Aquathlon event is usually in a swimming pool although they can be Open Water.

·         Over what distances do you compete?

Distances range from what is termed “sprint” distance events, in which you complete typically a 400m or 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run, all the way up to Ironman events in which the athlete completes a 3.8km swim, 180km bike and then a marathon (42km).  Novice Events like our Tipton Aquathlon are a max of 200m swim 2.5km Run, with children doing from 50yds swim and 600m run upwards age dependent.
